Housekeeping

Helllooooo everyone! Mindy here (again) using Mod Account for some Important Notes And Stuff. First off, we apologize to everyone who was on the receiving end of our app Slowatus; the combination of Conventions (two, in my case) and travel and all sorts of other things had us going far slower than we try to be. Assuming Primus or Unicron doesn't pay a visit to one of our houses (or DW's servers), it shouldn't happen again.

TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED: Welcome! Drinks are on the left.

And now, things for everyone;

--If you have not yet posted to the Player Contact or Taken pages, PLEASE PLEASE DO SO. I need to do some housekeeping on it regarding new adds and a couple drops, but we will start hounding you if we're missing you on there. Us hounding you is bad. Us hounding you makes us :[ and makes you :[ and :[ is not conductive to happy fun time games. Please also, for ease, make sure you're putting your character name/series in the subject of your Taken comment! (EDIT; For those of you who can't get access to Player Contact, please make sure you have the mod account (this one) friended. It's how I/we make sure everything's synced!)

--For those of you who want direct contact with your Firstforged. Please make sure you're pinging them OOCly! Everyone who muns a FF has a contact route via Mod Contact, and we also have IC Contact pages linked for things that wouldn't necessarily warrant a full post. Regardless of what you do, if you don't give us a heads-up that you'd like to play, we cannot guarantee you interaction. Unfortunately things can get lost and missed, but if you make the effort to contact us, we will most certainly contact you back!

--ACTIVITY CHECK. R/A is entering its second month of play, and we're considering starting AC next month! At the moment, our thoughts are somewhere along the lines of two posts per two months (log/link), and/or a 15-comment-thread on someone else's post. We're trying to keep a relaxed rate of play, but if this doesn't work, speak now or forever hold your peace.

--GAME-WIDE HMD. We're also considering one of these - rather, are you guys interested in having one at all? ATM, R/A just requires you to have an HMD in your journal. This one would be a bi or tri or quad month thing. Give us your feedback!

(Also, someone had been talking about the adult comm having the wrong comment page layout? Should be fixed!)

EDIT; Also. SURPRISE CR MEME TONIGHT AS SOON AS I FIND A GIF. I'll be posting it in [community profile] ruinedforever. EDITEDIT; 'sup.

Before I express my opinions about having a public game wide HMD, could I ask the reasoning for this change? Has something happened that the mods begin to feel that a public HMD would improve? When I joined, I was under the impression that we just needed to have an HMD on our player account. What's happened that's making you rethink this?
sword_redemption: (red rust i'm sorry)

[personal profile] sword_redemption 2012-08-04 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, fair enough.

My opinion is, no.

In my experience (which you know) they do nothing but sow wank and division. The HMD either devolves into a circlejerk lovefest or a dogpile on a less popular player (usually me so, yeah, sour grapes disclaimer here). Or both.

We don't need the lovefest: the popular people know they're popular and there's really no need to rub it in the unpopular people's faces that they're NOT popular.

And crit, as I've seen, rarely tends to be worded in a way that is constructive. I still remember "you're bringing down the whole game". That has not made me a better player: it has made me TERRIFIED to tag certain players or be too active in a game or to add people on plurk, etc. It may have been the player's intent to have just that effect, but it's not really been, uh, constructive.

Public HMDs turn into public performances. There's nothing you need to crit on a public HMD that you can't say on the person's character HMD if your goal is to be friendly, constructive and helpful. And if you can't do all three, mmmmaaaaaybe you should not say it.

If you do decide to have a public HMD, I would ask that you either (or both) make it OPTIONAL and turn off anon.

Throwing my vote into this opinion (+1)

[personal profile] my_own_trope 2012-08-04 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
While I usually love game wide HMDs FOR the circlejerking, (because it's great fun to get compliments and love / to shower compliments and love) that's honestly better suited for a LOVE MEME --- and public HMDs usually devolve into either that or wank really easily.

Re/Alignment's rule that we all have HMDs in our journals is perfect and accomplishes what an HMD is for. There's nothing that can be done in a game-wide context that can't be done just as maturely on a private HMD

And it can be unfun too to be on the receiving end of NO comments on your post if you posted to the gamewide HMD.

So I agree with Drift's player. I don't think a game-wide HMD is necessary, but if it does happen, I would prefer to see it be optional with Anon-off. If people want to post anon, they can post to the individual private HMDs or make a sock account if it's that important to them.

As an alternative, I wouldn't mind seeing a game-wide CR With Me meme. But that does run the risk of the appearing-popular-bandwagon too. It is however, a little more acceptable I think??

That's my 2 cents.

How does the IC Contact page works? Clicking on it takes me to the 'Taken' page.

I think using two posts per two months (log/link) or a 15-comment-thread on someone else's post as two options for players to choose from could work?

What's a Game-Wide HMD? How would that work?

Good to see you back!

[personal profile] my_own_trope 2012-08-04 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The IC contact page for the FFs?

And a Game-Wide HMD usually works like this:
Mods posts a new posts and then each player (A) makes a comment to that post listing the characters they play.
At that point other players (anonymously or not) (B) comment to posts that (A) made to let (A) know how they're doing as a player. Sometimes concrit happens. Sometimes people are less mature about it. And sometimes it devolves into everyone loving each other.

... Did that make any sense?

Yeah, IC contact page for FFs.

Sorry, I fail with Plurk, I can't even figure out how to start one, though I may be just set in my ways. ^^; If I ever get a plurk for RP, I'll let you know!

Yeah, makes sense, thanks. :)

For the FF contact, scroll down to the NPC portion of the taken page:
http://re-alignedmods.dreamwidth.org/1909.html
and you can find the contact post as the top post in each of the individual NPC journals. For other OOC contact, you can always PM the player that plays an FF too.

Does that clear anything up?

And don't worry about plurk. That's really just an optional side thing people have going on. But if you'd like some help or a walkthrough I can always oblige.

Ooh that activity check seems pretty fair. I like the inclusion of a comment thread as activity to encourage people to interact and because I can't always think of post topics, though I do enjoy tagging out a lot.

As far as the HMD goes I really enjoy getting constructive crit and feedback about how I'm doing, and (with a mod-supervised hmd to ensure no abuse takes place, obviously) I think it's a good idea.

What is the adult comm? :D

AC sounds beautiful.

And iiiiii kind of want a game-wide HMD for the simple fact that I find people don't use personal HMDs that often. Or in my case they never get used unless I'm being spammed with random crap that has nothing to do with RP. However I also know how game-wide HMDs can get, and sometimes they kinda suck for people.

SO. My vote is for it, if modded properly. If you guys add it, awesome! If you don't, that's kay.

Hi everyone.

Oh activity check: I think those options soudns great and encourage tagging, so you got my vote :D

On game-wide HMD: I've been in game that had the public HMD made mandatory and I know for certain that it can even turn off possible future players, or turn into a lovefest/circlejeck. My persons opinion is that the game rule about all the chars having a personal HMD in their journals works well enough so far.

If a particular player never really listens to constructive criticism,/godmods/causes troubles in general/etc... that can later be reported as a complain to the mod team. Do we have a mod contact post for that? My suggestion is something like what [community profile] dramadramaduck uses here. It's more private, helps to avoid accidental drama and gets things done just as quickly.

That said, I'll be okay with anything you decide to do.

That AC seems fine to me.

For game-wide HMD you could always have it optional. People who aren't comfortable with it can just have one in their journals and not post to the game one.

Also I agree on one of the above comments about having a CR meme. I think that would be a good idea.

I think the activity check sounds very lenient and more than fair, for a two month periods. I definitely like the idea of being able to substitute tags to others posts for starting your own, simply because a lot of the time, I'm better at reacting to what others are doing than generating my own thing to react to.

I think in general the HMD in each person's journal should be sufficient. A game-wide one, in my experience, tends to turn into a bit of a creeping feeling of "we don't trust you to resolve things on your own/as needed."
