Oh, crap, that's right, turning point from /canon/, not completely AU of canon. The major turning point is actually, I guess, Megatron's in a sense - major event: the war was never started and never happened. There's really no one, set, single event...since TC especially doesn't /have/ any set canon history. Well . . . this might not still work, since it also kind of determines histories for G1 Megs and Stars, but since neither are currently in the game and it'd be easy enough to ignore that I'd be somewhat "setting" something in R/A for them if we ever /do/ get either one...let's see if I can still make this work. (And I'm totally cool with it not doing so, if it's still not quite what you're looking for. 9,9)
There's very little canon background for any of the G1 cast, and I think really none for TC. I know other continuities have Megatron starting off as either a gladiator or mining slave or both, but I don't remember what "War Dawn" said G1 Megs did before beginning his revolt. Whatever it was, though, instead of revolting, he entered the military and made his way up the ranks, intending to eventually take control of the military and working his revolution that way. Starscream still went to school, still explored with Skyfire and lost him on Earth, came back and faced whatever consequences there were for that (fanon has a lot of speculation on that, him being put on trial and such), life went on, and Starscream either worked his way up the ranks in Vos, or was elected, or outright took over, but eventually wound up leader of Vos, and trined with Thundercracker and Skywarp . . . until Megatron came along.
Thundercracker himself, his history is really just that he "grew up" in Vos, entered the military, and was a career soldier, met Starscream and impressed him enough to be accepted as his wingmate (all of which is my headcanon for TC anyway, except he didn't meet Starscream until after he joined the Decepticons), and when Starscream became Winglord of Vos, that put him in the position of being a member of the Command Trine (of Vosan army instead of the Decepticon army).
So I guess the single event was Megatron's decision to pursue the military instead of gather some forces and hit the supply depot where Orion Pax was working...?
If that works, awesome! If not...I know it's muddy. G1 history in general is muddy. Either way, let me know! ^__^
