Altered History: Same highly advanced robot society on Cybertron that has made contact with a plethora of other alien species (Not Earth yet) except there's no Optimus Prime, no Megatron, and if the government is corrupt it's the sort of thing you'll hear about in the robo-papers and not a big enough deal to start a civil war over. In fact, there's been very little conflict in this society and insofar as "Autobot" and "Decepticon" go, those are fairytale terms as far as Tarn is concerned and the Autobot/Decepticon emblems don't even exist.
If you want to spark conflict though, go ahead and try to start some religious discourse (which is impolite in most circles anyway). Primus and his little duckling First Forged are from the old outmoded religion. The new age one Tarn subscribes to salutes the super fabulous and entirely perfect almighty Mme Jackling. Don't say those words though, it's impolite to use a god's name in vain after all. That religion started as a crazy cultist society but over the years grew into something legitimately acknowledged. Now they've even got robot-Sunday schools (Something Tarn teaches). [Tarn's take on his religion however, remains a little unconventional compared to his peers'.]
Additional note: "Tarn" isn't a city/state/location at all. For the record Tarn was sparked and grew up in the quaint little village of Canadarr.
Altered Personality: Everything about Tarn's personality and behaviours remain the same, just not his motivations or what he's trying to aquire. - Instead of being addicted to transforming, he's addicted to interfacing and also activities that are directly analogous to "sex". - Instead of being obsessed with the Decepticon doctrine, it's (his take on) religion he's crazy about. - Instead of using violence to scare people into staying in line, he believes the application of pain and/or orgasms (or their equivalent) brings people closer to the divine. - Instead of spreading Decepticon conquest all over the universe, Tarn would much rather have new and exciting sexual encounters with the rest of the universe and thereby also bring them closer to religious esctascy. - He still has a list but it's not made of names so much as kinks he's just thought of and really needs to give a try! - The shape of his mask doesn't MEAN anything and there were tons of similar ones in different colours at robo-Walmart. - He's still super cultured with interests in music, literature, education, language, etc but the subject matter is all about religion this time. - Instead of being easily distracted, his groan-worthy handicap are now his pick-up lines - The voice doesn't TORTURE sparks (unless you're into that) so much as... "torture" them. (By which I mean hello robot orgamsm) - HE'S STILL A TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, PERSON. Instead of noncon torture to death you just get straight up noncon if he's feeling like it ---> yes I will have a permissions page [no I don't foresee that aspect of his hobbies being put to much use]
Altered Appearance: No change except for colour schemes: yellow eyes, sky blue mask and detailing, brown body. Oh yes, he also has Dominus Ambus's face under that mask, but it is flesh coloured. He is NOT however, aware of who "Ambus" might be, because his name is Tarn. He's still a tank and is definitely a phase-sixer. (From his reality they call that the 69th tier. It's pretty much final boss level stats.)
Might not actually use this but here you go! Super Obnoxious AU!:
