On Cybertron, Bulkhead started life out as just a construction worker, and a lowly lower caste citizen. This part of his history doesn't alter. But in addition to this, he had a side hobby. Things could be pretty dull sometimes in the lower castes, you know. On his off time he started reading the most random of things: Spacebridge manuals. Any he could find, really. Likely thrown out because they were thought to be outdated and useless. Eventually of course, Spacebridge technology became lost to the knowledge of most on Cybertron.
Despite what he knew, Bulkhead kept his knowledge to himself. He was just a lower caste citizen, why would anyone believe that he had it anyway? Much less ask. Things went on as normal, until of course Megatron began his uprising. This is where his hostory truly changes. The original Bulkhead followed his best friend, Wheeljack into the Wreckers and eventually to Team Prime. This Bulkhead had a different best friend: Breakdown. Who he followed into the Decepticons.
He was put to work as one of Megatron's main fighters, since he could take hits due to his size, and with arms could dish out as good as he got, if not better. But while Breakdown split off to work with Knock Out, Bulkhead continued on working under Megatron. Once Megatron found out about Bulkhead's knowledge, after Shockwave was supposedly killed back on Cybertron, he put the big green mech to work, with Starscream and the Vehicons, on building him more spacebridges.
Eventually of course they were led to Earth, and with one Space bridge built, Starscream sent to help find Energon, and so he faced the Autobots on more than one occasion, and eventually he helped build the con's final Spacebridge.
Altered Personality:
The original Bulkhead wasn't the smart of the team, but he was still pretty smart, even more so than he liked to think. He was a big lug, with a big spark, caring, optimisitic and an all around nice guy, with a bit of a dark side, and and a hot temper hidden underneath.
AU Bulk's personality isn't that much different. Only most of his goodness has been beaten down over the centuries by his commanding officers. It's still there, but, a lot like Breakdown in canon, he only really shows that side of him to certain people. Like Vehicons he's worked with, and even Breakdown. There just wasn't any place for a gentle soul under Megatron's command. As a result he can be a little stand offish to new people, coming off as neutral and almost uncaring.
But he's still gentle and caring, even to enemies, and usually won't attack even Autobots unless attacked first, or he's commanded to do it by a higher ranked officer. But while he won't, he still has a distrust and dislike of 'bots. He doesn't trust them, anymore than they trust him. And a save or two isn't going to change that. To top it off, he's not that smart either. And I mean even less smart than his original. The only thing he's any kind of expert at is building Spacebridges, and that's it.
Except not, as not only is he not smart, he's destructive. Even when he doesn't mean to be. While the original was known for breaking things, usually on accident. AU!Bulkhead is about ten times worse. Picture like his Animated self in a fight, and you pretty much have it. In battle, he does more harm than that, which was likely only encouraged by the cons.
Altered Appearance:
He doesn't look that much different physical wise. Only maybe a little more Bulky. Of course the obvious things will be his yellow optics and the black Autobot logos on his arms will be replaced by black Decepticon logos. He still retains his mace/canon balls and his built-in blasters.
Also his alt-mode will be changed, from the SUV/Truck he usually has, to one more resembling what Breakdown had, some kind of armored truck thing.
